Are you curious about our cleaning process?

Art of Clean, Cambridge (UK) are THE specialists when it comes to rug and carpet cleaning and while it's nice to praise ourselves and occasionally, allow you to do the same, every once in a while, we think it might be fun for you to see a little behind the scenes.

So, here are our steps...well, the initial steps, can't reveal all the trade secrets in one go can we?

Step 1: Take one scruffy rug and lay on a surface that will allow for said 'scruff' or dirt to fall free from the rug.

Step 2: Take one Badger...but not just any badger, you'll need a shiny, red one. The black and white one can just hang out in the woods.

Step 3: Run over the rug, repeatedly (see why we use a red badger?). This process frees the vast majority or dirt and dust from your rug and then allows us to move on to the secret part of the process...OK, we wash it, there, you happy, I told you.

Here's our reveal shot, showing the dust accumulated on the concrete floor. It's pretty impressive, isn't it.

Then some poor mug has to sweep-up...usually Gavin.

This is a recent video we shot, highlighting the need to have your rug washed every 1-2 years at the least. Constant wear, especially when the rug or carpet is in a "high-traffic" area (not the M11); like an entrance or hallway, leads to grime build-up. Then it's time for the professionals, or a burly fella with a very big stick, you choose.

Don't forget, it's always best to hire the BEST.

Plumbing - Not just for the boys

Sarah Osborne has been running her plumbing business, JustSoPlumbing for a little over six years. Her business has, understandably grown over that time and she now employs an apprentice. Art of Clean contacted her recently to ask a little more about her life as a plumber, a female plumber in a male plumbing world…well, Cambridge.

When and why did you start working in this area?

"I started my business in jan 2009 after training the previous year"

·         What has been your biggest challenge?

"Running my business whilst also trying to be a mum to my 14month old!"

·         Have you found being a woman and a plumber has been a hindrance or a help?

"As with most things it's both, many people prefer a woman in their house and feel safer, but there are also plenty who as a woman I may not be strong enough to do a job"

·         How has your business changed over the years?

"I don't feel my business has changed much, it's grown and I now have an apprentice, but in general the business is still the same, offering a friendly professional service"

·         What do you find most enjoyable about working in your chosen field?

"The customers, every day is different, 90% of my work is word of mouth, so I have a great customer base of wonderfully interesting people"

·         Do you have any anecdotes about your life in the industry?

"There are many, but I sadly can't think of a shareable one"

·         How has social media affected your business?

"It hasn't yet, but there's still time!"

·         Would you recommend more women to become plumbers?

"Of course, it's a great industry and it’s always good to keep the men on their toes!"

East Anglia Children's Hospice Charity Abseil

www.each.co.uk

As of the 18th of October, our fearless Social Media Manager - David Wing, will be abseiling on behalf of the worthy charity, EACH.

The aim is to raise £1000. To do this, we need you!

Now, just so you know, David has what we might call a mild fear of heights. Symptoms include wobbly legs, wobbly head, shaky arms and a slight watering of the pants. To discourage these ailments, David will be arming himself with the knowledge that he is jumping down the 100ft Guild Hall, Cambridge for a very good reason and your money will be spent on needy children.

If you're unfamiliar with EACH and their work, here is a summery.

We support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. Our care and support is tailored for the needs of all family members and delivered where the families wish – in their own home, at hospital, in the community or at one of three hospices in Ipswich, Milton and Quidenham.

We deliver a wide range of services and families can choose which parts of our support they use, including:

·        - day care in the family home or hospices, or both
·       -  overnight breaks in the hospice
·      -   support for children and young people (including siblings) and parents and grandparents
·       -  symptom management support and advice
·       -  24 hour telephone support
·        - music, physio and hydro therapies
·        - specialist play
·        - spiritual care
·        - care at end of life
·        - bereavement support
·       -  family information service.

So, if you feel you can help, there are two ways.

You can either donate directly to the charity or, you can hire us to clean for you.

If you employ our expert team to clean, spray, polish or sand, 10% of the total paid will be donated to EACH.

- OFFER VALID until the end of October 2015 -

What is carpet cleaning hot water extraction?

Hot water extraction is a fancy way of saying that a hot water cleaning solution under high pressure is forced into your carpets & upholstery and then sucked out again.

In a recent Technical Bulletin, Shaw Industries, the world’s largest carpet manufacturer ‘recommends the hot water extraction system, which research indicates provides the best capability for cleaning’.

This is the method we recommend for most cleaning. On which type to choose, Shaw’s Technical Bulletin states: “Cleaning can be done from a truck mounted unit outside the facility with only the hose and wand brought inside, or where a truck mounted unit cannot reach, by a portable, self contained system brought into the facility”.

Shaw Industries recommends extraction cleaning. And this isn’t surprising.

You see, this system cleans much better because it heats the water to a safe temperature – and shoots the cleaning solution into the carpet. This breaks up the dirt, bacteria etc. in the carpet. Then the machine produces huge vacuum volume to draw the dirt and solutions out of your carpets & upholstery.

This is the method Art of Clean use. No question, the most effective way to clean carpeting & upholstery is with a truck mounted hot-water unit. It’s the most powerful cleaning machine on the market and the only machine that cleans your carpet & upholstery of dirt, harmful bacteria, fungus, chemicals, pollens and tobacco residue and dust mites. Some people believe that hot water damages your carpets & upholstery, but this is not true. By washing and then rinsing your carpets & upholstery with hot water, we clean them completely – in the same way that the person who showers and rinses off the dirt and soap will be much cleaner than the person who only takes a sponge bath.

The importance of choosing a company that invest in regular equipment upgrades

We live in a world of evolution where things change really fast. Every day we hear of new developments and discoveries in the world.

We also see regular changes in the cleaning and restoration industry.

Here is the thing – Every few years you will replace your mobile phone or car. You might have noticed that those items you buy to replace the old items do so much more – offering you so much more benefits.

Why would you be happy to accept or in most cases EXPECT upgrades to everyday items but still be happy to except your cleaning and floor restoration firm do NOT invest in product or equipment upgrades?

Why would companies make a profit from the work you give them and not use some of the profit to re-invest and in turn serve you better?

Maybe it is time to invite someone else in to quote for the cleaning of your flooring and furnishings or the sanding and sealing of your wood floor.

Here are a few investments we recently made at Art of Clean to serve our clients better and help our amazing technical team have pleasure working for you:
New SX7 stone and tile cleaner

This item helps clean hard floor surfaces by injecting water at higher temperature onto the floor area and then safely extracting it off the floor.

Here are the benefits to you:
This new tool clean well into small corners (notice the nose on the tool) using a jet of water on the nose of the tool. It is also way more controllable and gets more dirt off the floor.
