Halloween clean-up

What is there to clean up for Halloween?

Where to start......
Firstly there are sure to be a lot of sweet wrappers...
Then there's the sticky fingered, chocolatey, food-dyed mess on the furniture and floors...
Candle wax splashes...
Face-paint on walls, floors and furniture...
 .........
And possibly - if the kids have really over indulged - there may be vomit...

Here's a short list of cleaning tips to deal with whatever may come your way:

  • Sticky Mess: For most surfaces, use a simple solution of warm water and a little dish washing liquid (use un-coloured liquid)...use a clean cloth dipped in solution blot the area, try to avoid rubbing as this may damage material fibers.  For Melted Sticky Sweets make a solution of one part vinegar to two parts water, dab with clean cloth, blot with clean water afterwards to remove solution, then scrape away loosened sweet.
  • Chewing Gum: if possible try to freeze the area with ice, this will make the gum easy to scrape away.  For Gum in Hair rub with peanut-butter to loosen it from the hair.
  • Candle Wax: ***Do not try to remove hot wax*** Once wax has dried break it off with a knife to remove as much as possible.  For residual wax, place a clean old cloth over wax and run a hot iron over cloth, most of the wax should transfer onto the cloth.  For further help contact Art of Clean (click here see how our techs successfully remove wax on carpet .
  •  Face Paint: On carpet and upholstery use a material specific remover, such as Art of Cleans Professional Spot and Stain Remover.  (If you Art of Clean have cleaned your carpets you will very likely have received a free spot and stain remover!) Always test remover first on an inconspicuous area to check for colour transferal.  As directed, spray stained area and dab - do not rub- area.  Rubbing may cause stains to penetrate further into the fabric.  For wool carpets, use a wool specific cleaner.
