Peacocks and other rugs

It's called "Peacocking"; dressing for attention.

Male peacocks flutter their rather lovely feathers in an effort to attractive the female of the species. Now, what in the world does this have to do with rugs? I here you ask.

Nothing at all, but here's a rather lovely one by The Rug Company.

http://www.artofclean.co.uk/

Brought in for a spot of cleaning, this is one of the more striking rugs we've had the pleasure of dealing with, and it goes to show that not every rug needs to be traditional. The feathers or rain drops, however you see it, blot colour everywhere and draw the eye, keeping this rug interesting, long past it's purchase date.

This one is not so much for walking on as it is for hanging, but there you have another use for rugs: art. Tapestries have been giving people pleasure for centuries. A prime example of a wonderful piece is at the Victoria and Albert Museum - London.

John Lewis currently have a range of interesting designs to decorate your floor, something different to make a centre piece and a conversation starter.

And here's one we found just to boggle your mind from Sacramento Airport, USA.

Rug cleaning brings with it countless confounding conundrums. Staining is obviously the largest bug bear for any rug or carpet owner. Whether it's your children dripping their Ribena on the new beige carpet, your thoughtless other half traipsing in muddied feet after begrudgingly mowing the lawn (because you've been asking him since the start of Summer and it's September now), or your elderly pet loosing a little urine, it's all stains at the end of the day.

It all means it needs a clean!

It all means, call the professionals.

Art of Clean have been spot fixing, blotting, scrubbing, washing, dabbing and daubing stains for over ten years now and show no signs of stopping.

Tips on how to Remove Dog Urine

http://www.carpetcleanerscambridge.co.uk/

No matter how disgusting it sounds, it must be done. Here are some ways by which carpet stain removal will be possible and will help you to remove dog urine from carpet.

Paper Towel

If the puddle is still fresh, then place paper towels on it and soak as much of the pee as you can. This will ensure that the stain does not become deep and set there permanently. It will also ensure that the carpet does not emit a smell.

Vinegar

Take some white vinegar and mix it in water, in a 50:50 ratio.
Now take the mixture and pour it over the stain so that it percolates deep into the carpet and covers the entire stain.
Then take a hard brush and scrub over the area (make sure you use the right pressure so as not to damage the carpet).
Now blot it with some paper towels.
The vinegar will act as a neutralizing agent for the ammonia in the dog pee.

Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide

Take a good amount of (about a handful of) baking soda and pour over the dried stain.
Then mix 3 % of hydrogen peroxide with some detergent(about 1 tsp).
Be careful about the type of dish washing liquid you use. Make sue it is not caustic.
Now pour this mixture over the baking soda.
Now work this paste into the carpet with your fingers or a brush.
Let dry and then use a vacuum cleaner on it.

Toothpaste

It might sound pretty unconventional, but take some toothpaste (any will do) and put it on the stain after diluting it with warm water.
Now take an old toothbrush and scrub the area carefully.

Absorbing Granules

There are certain products in the market that contain absorbing granules in them. These granules have absorbing agents in them that soak up the pee and also act as a cleaning agent.

Simply take these granules and pour over the wet stain(They work best on a wet stain)
Let sit for sometime for it to soak all the liquid.
These will not only remove dog urine smell, but also correct discoloration (if any).

Biological Washing Powder

Take some biological washing powder and mix it in lukewarm water to turn into paste.
Take this paste and rub it over the spot.
    Let sit for sometime.
Then blot with paper towels and vacuum dry.
This will get rid of the stains and the smell as well. Read more on cleaning products.

Things to Remember

There are certain things that you should keep in mind before trying to remove dog urine from carpet. They are:

*It is always easier to clean a fresh spot, so try and attack the spot as soon as possible.

*NEVER us an ammonia based product for stain removal as this will lead to further staining. This is because, dog urine contains ammonia.

*Always test a small portion of the carpet with the detergent so that you are ensured that the solution itself does not stain.

*Always get rid of the smell completely, or else your dog might end up peeing on the same spot with an intention of marking his territory.

#1 - In the advent of Christmas we are giving 24 reasons to have your carpet cleaned

It's just 24 days until Christmas!

www.narehotel.co.uk

With family coming round it's time to get the house looking it's best.  In order to prepare your home for their arrival, at the top of your "to do" list should be getting your carpets cleaned.  We're going to give you 24 festive reasons to have tour carpet cleaned.....

Reason #1

Remove general stains and marks

Would you serve your beautiful Christmas dinner on a stained table cloth?

No...you want your masterful culinary skills and beautiful presentation to be the only thing people will notice.

Carpets and walls make up a majority of the visual space in a room, if they are looking worn and marked the whole room will feel a little weathered.  Getting your carpets cleaned will ensure that you have a clean canvas before you start decorating for Christmas.

Carpet protection - is it safe for children and animals?

www.onepartsunshine.com

We all worry about what pollutants and toxins our children and pets breath in every day...vehicle fumes, bleach products, aerosols, toxic paint fumes, pesticides....the list goes on.

When we get our carpets cleaned we imagine we're doing a great job at keeping dirt and allergens at bay from our precious loved ones, and we are.  But to ensure your carpets stay clean for longer you are advised to apply a protector to your carpets.

This protector is sprayed liberally all over the carpet to ensure that any soil of fluid spills do not soak straight into the carpet causing staining, allowing you time to clean up the mess before damage is done.

http://www.bedrosianrugs.com

But is this carpet protection safe for your homes inhabitants?

At Art of Clean we us a product called MasterBlends "SuperShield" carpet protector.  This is a a quick-drying protector that offers superior repellant qualities.

The best part is......it is safe to use around your family.
  • Odor free
  • Residue free
  • Non-toxic
  • CFC-free
Not all carpet cleaning companies will use this product and it would be advisable to check with the company what products they use before they do the work - this way you can research the product yourself and be sure you are satisfied with the safety of the product.

*Cut-price carpet cleaners will use cut-price products that usually contain more harmful chemicals*

Make sure your carpet cleaner is insured! - Are you're carpets covered if the clean goes wrong?

Has Your Cleaning Company - Got You Covered?

Why incorrect Insurance Could Well Cost YOU Thousands!

Insurance - it sounds boring right? Yes it does a bit, but we all know that the word insurance is an important one, and one that should never be ignored in the cleaning industry.

Think of this scenario: Someone comes to your house and cleans your carpets or furniture and the job seems ok, but then suddenly you notice a tear in the fabric of the sofa - or the carpet has started to shrink, pulling off the gripper at the same time. DISASTER! Well yes, it could happen (less so with a highly trained competent person), and so you get in touch with the cleaning company who caused it. By the way - you may not get a reply from some individuals - but that's another story about cowboys that we will cover another time.

So, great the chap comes back (although lets face it you could do without all the upheaval of this altogether right?). So he takes a look and says "yes there is an issue and I will arrange it with my insurance company - as I do have Liability insurance".

Uh Oh...

Maybe a week later you manage to get hold of the person - who sheepishly explains that his insurance company won't pay out for this sort of claim. WHAT! That's right, it won't because nearly all liability insurance scheme's will only cover the property for damage caused and NOT, I repeat NOT the items being cleaned.

So what do you do now?

Well you could hope that the cleaning company are honest and that they will pay to replace your items - out of their own pockets - but this is a long shot. Does a cleaner who works on his own - or someone who is on a tight budget price wise have that sort of money lying around? Definitely Not! So you could now be left with a Massive BILL because who else is going to get it sorted? Think this doesn't happen? - I'm afraid it does. It amazes me how many companies and individuals, that actually either have insufficient insurance - or NONE AT ALL!

So what should you do to give you piece of mind?

It's easy so don't worry. First of all get the person to visit to give a quotation - or if this isn't possible then get them to do it before cleaning. This way you can assess other aspects of their business (like equipment, training, client feedback etc) i.e. whether they have the credentials to carry out a competent, structured, professional cleaning schedule. Then simply ask to see their insurance policy.

They must what we call a 'double insurance' policy, or one that combines extra cover. What I mean is, the policy must have:

Liability Cover AND Treatments Risk cover. It's ONLY the treatments risk cover that protects your items if they get damaged through cleaning.

Remember, cleaning companies or individuals are legally liable to cover you - and if they only have Liability insurance MOST Liability policies EXCLUDE these cleaning related claims.

You have been warned.

3,000 year old sarcophagus found in house clearance sold for £12,000 at Willingham Auctions

Cash in your attic?

Stephen Drake, Auctioneer at Willingham Auction House, had an "Indiana Jones moment" recently when he was called to value items at a house clearance in Bradwell-on-sea in Essex.  At first it seemed like another normal clearance.  However the previous owner of the house, Captain 'Tiger Sarll, had left behind a great surprise.  Climbing through a hole in the wall to access this far flung room, Stephen found propped against a wall and covers in cobwebs a genuine sarcophagus.  He contacted the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge who confirmed its origins and dated it at over 3,000 years old! There was a media frenzy at Willingham Auctions last sale when the item was sold for £12,000 to a private buyer.  Fitzwilliam Museum spoke with the new owner "advising her on the possibilities of conserving the piece".

Cleaning your carpets before winter sets in, here are a few things you will need to consider

Having your carpets cleaned late autumn early winter can offer the homeowner the following benefits:
• Peace of mind that you are living in a clean and healthy environment this winter.
• With Christmas around the corner, you know that you home will look at its best.
If you have your boiler serviced annually, or if you need to have your radiators bled, then these could cause unsightly stains on your carpet, as per the photo. Having a chimney swept can also cause staining to a carpet, rugs and upholstery. So therefore having your carpet cleaned each autumn after you have had all of the work done to prepare for winter does make sense.
Carpet cleaners Cambridge
We would strongly advise against asking your chimney sweep or plumbers to remove any stains themselves, as they are unlikely to be experts in cleaning and could cause permanent damage to your flooring and furnishings.
If you would like to discuss having your carpets cleaned or would like a free no obligation quotation then give one of our professional floor cleaning team a call on 01228 863632.
