Rug cleaning tour at Art of Clean last week

We have been very lucky to have Ellen Amirkhan, Robert Mann and 5 other professional rug cleaners from the United States to visit our rug cleaning studio here in Cambridge. We are proud to say that we are students of Ellen Amirkhan and Aaron Groseclose with the Mater Rug Cleaner Program. We have visited her rug cleaning plant in Dallas USA and we always learn so much. - See our blog posts on our previous visits here - http://bit.ly/1ngamHO and also see our facebook page at www.facebook.com/artofclean

They just completed another Master rug Cleaning class in Wales and is now touring England.. Her book and DVDs are  the items to get if you really wants to know more about rug cleaning and rug identification.

We have a huge variety of different rugs given to us to clean, this week we had a beautiful white and coloured rug which needed cleaning. It’s always a pleasure to see a dull and discoloured rug brought back to life with a good clean. It takes between 10 and 14 days to clean and return a rug to its owner.

Art of Clean and rugs

We recently went to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and we saw some amazing rugs:

- The Ardabil Carpet. This rug is the world's oldest dated carpet and was completed in 1539-40.
Hand knotted carpet in wool (pile) and silk (warps and wefts). The size is approximately 10mx5m. The pile is very dense - there are about 5300 knots per ten centimeters square.
You can see a central yellow medaillon and the background of the main field is dark-blue. Also 2 lamps shown hanging are of different sizes and we don't know why. Each part of the design is filled with fantastic flowers or leaves.

 - The Chelsea Carpet is very impressive. It is a little bit older(1500-1550) than the Ardabil Carpet and the design is different. You can see animals, trees or fruit. The Chelsea Carpet ontains 2 large x-shaped compositions made up of large and small medaillions. You can see 2 vases of flowers on elaborate stands.

- UÅŸak medallion carpet (about 1500). The medaillons are so large that they become the dominant element.
