Know the facts before choosing your next floor covering

After 12 years in flooring and soft furnishing care business I have restored many floors and many soft furnishings. I have seen so many amazing items of great quality that has been cared for very well. I have also seen many items that needed a lot of work to restore.

One thing that stand out and breaks my heart has always been the wrong floor covering installed for the wrong use.

My name is Pierre de Wet and after I started Art of Clean in December 2005 I made a promise to myself that I wish to serve our clients really well. I would be open and honest – When I can clean or restore an item I would, though if I cannot I would be open about it. In the last 12 years, I have sadly seen several home owners that bought carpets that are “Bleach Cleanable” though sadly after 6 months they felt very unhappy with the floor they got advised to buy. To make it better they asked if we can restore it for them. Sadly, this is not always possible due to the nature of the fabric. Sadly, the retailer that sold the floor covering only focused on one presumable advantage of the floor covering and not the item.

Wood floors have had their fair share of miss-selling – Some engineered floors have such a thin top layer that you can only sand the floor once and even then, you must be so careful not to sand through to the lower layer.

All these experiences frustrated me a lot. Do not get me wrong – There are some amazing flooring retailers in and around Cambridge and they do an amazing job. Sadly, some are not.

I chose to do something about it. We open a lovely little retail shop on Milton Road next to Cambridge Floral Design. Art of Flooring is a flooring retailer supplying high quality carpets, wooden floors and luxury vinyl. We have two amazing team members with outstanding experience in their fields who care for the flooring side at Art of Flooring. 

We choose to only sell floors we know will serve the owner well and last for a long time. As all floor coverings require maintenance and care we can offer this through Art of Clean. By offering both the supply and maintenance we will be able to provide a much more bespoke product and service and this is turn will mean a product that will last for many years to come.

Art of Flooring at 1st Cambridge Home and Garden Show

After a long wait doors opened at the Guild Hall in Cambridge for the First Cambridge Home and Garden Show. Art of Flooring a Wood Vinyl and Carpet Flooring supplier and installer had the pleasure to be exhibiting at the event. It is a few weeks before we finally open our doors at 141 Milton Road in Cambridge even though we have been supplying and installing floors since we started the business in July 2017

A team of 4 of us Sam, Neil, Laurence and Pierre manned our stand in the Guildhall. Shortly after the doors opened people flooded in and we started sharing our passion for floor coverings with the public. Everyone took a great interest in Neil’s vast knowledge and experience on choosing the right floor for their home. Sam shared his experiences of his recent trip with 


Adam of Art of Clean to Germany for the installation of a wood block floor at the Dahlen Castle - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahlen_Castle as part of Workcamp Parkett. The trip was sponsored by Pallmann. Sam had a video to showcase the amazing work to the wood floor installations they carried out.

The Cambridge Home and GardenShow hosted a variety of businesses local to Cambridge and the area. Typical visitor included those that just bought a house and looking for suppliers or ideas where other look to start extensions or where in the midst of a grand development.

It was wonderful to speak to people about their experiences in home development.

We also had the pleasure to speak to people from all over the country that visited the Cambridge Home and Garden Show.

It was a busy day for all the exhibitors due to a constant flow of visitors.

The main attraction to our stand was for Wood floor supply and installations with Art of Flooring. We showcased some examples of Parquet Floors Herringbone and wood block floors.

Many of our visitors also had the need for high quality vinyl floors like Moduleo and Karndean
Higher quality laminate floors like Quickstep also attracted some attention.

By late afternoon the visitor numbers reduced enough for us to have a look around some other stalls and speak to some other exhibitors, build connections and exchange business ideas.

At closing time we all felt we had achieved success and it was time to pack away.
