When buying a rug, do you know the difference between hand knotted rug and machine made rug?

Why is it important to distinguish between handmade and machine made rug?

For an untrained eye, It can be difficult to distinguish the difference in Hand mande and machine made rugs -  but there are 2 easy ways to differentiate if your rug is handmade or machine made

1    1. Look at the back of the rug:

-          Hand knotted rug: the weaving and the knots will be slightly uneven and not perfectly uniform

-          Machine made rug: the back of the rug will look very uniform and perfectly even as this is done by a machine

The design when looking from the back of the rug is very important, more design and the better the quality of the rug.

2    2. Look at the fringes of the rug:

-          Hand knotted rug: the fringe is part of the rugs foundation

-          Machine made rug: the fringes is sewn on and is attached as a finishing touch.

Usually machine made rugs are generally not of any value to a collector. If you are not sure, ask a rug expert.
