Is it safe to remove candle wax with an iron?

Removing candle wax from Carpets

We all heard about the trick to remove candle wax from a carpet using an Iron and some brown paper

BUY

No one told you of the pitfalls

Here is what to watch out for:

Many carpets these days are made from synthetic fibres or a mix of natural and synthetic fibres. Due to this fact these fibres can easily melt when exposed to heat.
We have seen burn marks on carpets where clients tried the trick and failed.

Here is what you should do:

Carefully scrape as much candle wax as you can off with a blunt knife or side of a spoon

Turn the temperature down on your iron – Work it up slowly – Test and if it does not melt the wax turn it up a little – Just o the point where the iron starts melting the wax well.

Use a clean brown paper bag or kitchen towel – (Plain white kitchen towel is advised)

Work slowly from the outside of the wax towards the middle

We recently removed some candle wax on the carpet at the Ickleton Church in Saffron Walden. – We use a cleaning solution that dissolve the wax as our cleaning system can rinse the dissolved wax and cleaning solution out of the carpet. This eliminate the risk of burning or melting your carpet
