What is parquet wood flooring?

Here at the Art of Clean, we are a professional cleaning company but did you know we also sand floors?

And over the past 10 years, we have worked on a large number of wooden floors, soft and hard wood, new and antique pine floor boards.  Each type of floor offers has its own merits and if the floor hasn't been sanded in a number of years, then there is great satisfaction in peeling back the layers of old paint and carpet underlay and revealing beautiful floorboards just waiting to be sanded and brought back to life.

One of the most interesting flooring types has to be Parquet flooring, with its warm look and geometric designs in either engineered or solid construction.

Dating back to the 1600s, parquet was introduced in Versailles where it replaced the marble floors that required constant washing and hence often resulted in rotting floorboards below.

Some of the most popular contemporary designs in the home has been the herringbone formation.

If you uncover a Parquet floor in your home then count yourself lucky and have it restored and add a rustic elegance to your interior.

Although Parquet may have started in an historic era, it has grown and evolved over the years and continues to fit in well with current design features.  The other benefits of using Parquet flooring is that it is hardwearing and needs little or no maintenance and unstuck blocks are easily re-glued.
